Biotechnology is one of the most
promising and fast growing field in world. Todays biotechnology
has revolutionaries Medical, Pharmaceutical, Industrial,
Agricultural and Environmental sectors around the globe and
Commercial Biotech product are available these days.
While keeping the importance of
biotechnology and future needs of Pakistan in this sector, The
Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC) approved the
establishment of Gomal Center of Biochemistry and Biotechnology
(GCBB) in Gomal University Dera Ismail Khan in 2006 and
University launched its first batch admissions in Bs(4 years) in
Biotechnology Programme in September 2006. The First batch of
GCBB has successfully completed education and our students are
serving in various sectors of biotechnology.
Since its creation in 2006, the
center aimed to provide a standard and diverse research and
training environment to the students in various area of
Biotechnology. The Center is currently admitting students for
Bs(4 years) in Biotechnology programme. Currently More than 200
students are enrolled for this programme. The Center is planning
to start the m.phil and Ph.D programmes in near future.
The center provides most durable
and modern research facilities not only to its own students but
also to other science department in the University. The center
pursues the research aims by well established Labs, latest
equipments, state-of-the-art technologies, the recruitment of
high-caliber staff and effective industrial contacts. The major
equipments available are, Automated DNA sequencer, PCR Machines
(Thermocycler, Realtime),Gel Documentation, Gene Gun,
Electrophoresis equipment (PAGE etc) UV visible
spectrophotometers, Incubator Shakers, Furnace, Centrifuges, low
temperature freezers etc
The center although, is newly
established, has made successful collaborations with PCSIR,
NIBGE, Quaid I Azam University Islamabad etc having published
research articles in both national and international Journals. |
