Brief History
This Department was established in
the end of 1979 at City Campus of the University and initially
launched M.A Islamic Studies program with a view to provide
facilities for advanced studies and original research in the
field of Islamiyat. The department shifted to Arts Block at Main
Campus in 1983 but again shifted to City Campus in 2006. The
Program of M.A in Islamic Studies has been successfully
continued since establishment of the department but M.A in
Arabic program continued hardly for three sessions due to lack
of interest of candidates. The department started M.Phil/ Ph.D
programs in 2002 and 2004 respectively. Distance Education
Program in the relevant fields is also being offered by the
department. By the grace of ALLAH now it is a large department
among the departments of Faculty of Arts.
Academic Facilities
A departmental library is housed in
this department with a collection of about 7500 books. It is
meant to provide reading facilities to the students of this
department in addition to the Central library of Gomal
University. In departmental library a variety of titles are
found concerning different courses of both under-graduate and
post-graduate classes. Our cautiously chosen curriculum
considering the demands of the student and the existing period,
offers excellent study of the ancient times and the contemporary
era. The highly qualified staff is offering the services for
the students in their studies and research activities. Moreover
different extra curricular facilities are being provided to the
students. Besides teaching and studies, original research work
is also carried out in the department. Research activities at
M.Phil and Ph.D level are also in progress.
Students future
career/academic opportunities
After obtaining Master
Degree in Islamic Studies there is a scope of job for brilliant
students, in Schools, Colleges, Universities, Madaris, Armed
forces and different Government and non government
organizations. They can apply for the posts of BPS-17 exist in
the relevant field. Some students passing out from this
department are providing their services in educational, research
as well as religious institutions. On the basis of Master degree
in Islamic Studies the desirous students can improve their
qualification by appearing in N.T.S Tests/ getting admission in
M.Phil program. Moreover after passing requisite N.T.S
examination they can apply for Higher Education Commission’s
indigenous M.Phil leading to Ph.D Scholarship program.
Achievements
This department is too rich with
reference to highly qualified faculty having Ph.D degree in the
relevant fields. It is an honour that among seven Ph.D staff
members, a staff member completed his Post Doctoral Research in
a renowned university of Malaysia and another staff member got
his Ph.D degree from a famous university of U.S.A. The teaching
staff of the department has been actively engaged in various
research activities. Enough research papers of the staff have
been published in Research Journals of National and
International repute. Some of the faculty members of the
department also participate in the National/International
Conferences and Seminars and provide their views on different
national and international issues of Islam and Muslim Ummah as
well as dialogue among religions. The research activities in the
department are remarkable as this department produced 5 Ph.Ds
and 3 M.Phils till now.
Future Programs
The Department intends:-
1. To launch evening classes
in Arabic language.
2. To start Separate
Discipline for M.A Arabic Program.
3. To make success the
Distance Education Program.
4. To establish Islamic
Research Center at Gomal University.
5. To open Computer Lab in the
department.
6. To publish the Research
Journal under the auspices of the department.
