Introduction
Discipline of BS Environmental
Science was started in the Institute of Soil and Environmental
Sciences (ISES) in 2015. Later on, a separate Department of
Environmental Science was established in 2017 and shifted to the
Faculty of Engineering under the umbrella of Institute of
Environmental Science and Engineering (IESE) in 2019, to cater
formal education and research in the field of Environmental
Sciences which is at par with international standards. Highly
qualified PhD faculty has been hired to facilitate teaching and
research in the field of Environmental Science.
Currently, a four-year bachelor’s
degree program (BS) in Environmental Sciences has been launched
by the department. An interdisciplinary and integrative
curriculum has been designed in compliance with the curriculum
division of HEC Pakistan to equip the students with key skills
and knowledge to understand and confront complex environmental
issues.
Our graduates may find employment in
diversified fields with productive careers in federal,
provincial and local government agencies, academia, ministry of
climate change, environmental protection agencies, disaster
management authorities, international NGOs like WHO, IUCN and
WWF, institutes and corporations in the private sector,
industry, consulting firms and many more.
Aim and objectives
The program focuses to prepare its
graduates to understand the national and global environmental
issues such as air, water and soil pollution, population
explosion, overuse of natural resources, environmental
degradation, deforestation, silting of reservoirs, loss of
biodiversity, natural disasters, crop damages, climate change,
ozone layer depletion and lack of environmental awareness etc.
The department provides conducive opportunities to its graduate
students for conducting research in the laboratory and field
related to the environmental concerns.
Vision
Students completing the Environmental
Sciences Graduate Program are expected to a play critical role
and contribute towards the management of environment and
sustainable development by adopting multidisciplinary approaches
that are necessary to meet the emerging environmental challenges
in Pakistan, throughout the region and around the globe.
