Medicinal plants are
being used by mankind for the treatment of multiple ailments,
since the beginning of human civilization.
WHO estimated that
above 80% of World populationsimply rely on Herbal
Medicine. A series of modern drugs have origins
from Medicinal
plants.
Safety, efficacy and
cost effectiveness are the key points that attract both
physician and patients towards herbal medicine.
Scientists
todays are paying key attention towards herbal medicine and
looking for new therapeutic regimens and molecules
for the
treatment of cancer, diabetes mellitus, hypertension and many
other diseases.
In
Department of
Pharmacognosy, we train the Pharm-D students covering
various techniques used in the Pharmacognosy
and Natural Product
Research. We not only involve the undergraduate
students in practical lab (For instance Rotary evaporators,
TLC,
Paper chromatography, Column Chromatography, Chemical
Identification tests etc) but also
provide an excess to
sophisticated instruments within University for instance UV,
HPLC, GCMS, NMR etc to develop interest in
Pharmacognosy and
Natural Products Research.
