The Institute of Physics
& Electronics was established in 2018 consisting of two
departments i.e. Department of Physics and Department of
Electronics.
1.
DEPARTMENT
OF PHYSICS
Vision:
The department is
struggling hard to meet the growing demand of higher education
of the nation with the dire need of a helping hand to develop
basic infrastructure and academic facilities for carrying out
its efforts to the cause of creating national human resource for
promotion of science and technology. The graduates of the
department are working on responsible positions in various
academic institutions, Survey of Pakistan, Metrological office,
Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission, KRL, NESCOM and SPORCO.
Mission:
•
To provide an outstanding national educational experience
to our students for developing human resource as an effective
future leadership in the field of Science and Technology and
academia.
•
To perform frontier research in pure and applied Physics
and related areas of technological importance.
•
To provide the institutional knowledge base in Physics
and to disseminate the current knowledge through interaction
with other research and academic institutions.
•
To provide quality education to the young student
community at large for raising the standard of existing
scientific world in achieving the goals of technologically
developed nation.
Objectives:
The Department of
Physics has the following objectives:
1.
Apply their knowledge
for creating new technology and improving the
existing one.
2.
Design and run the
project independently by seeking solutions to the project
objectives both theoretically and experimentally in accordance
with the physical laws.
3.
Be able to work both
as team member or leader with effective written and oral
communication skills.
4.
Impart the knowledge
effectively to the coming generations in Physical Sciences.
5.
Apply their knowledge
for environmental studies for enhancing the environmental
quality.
6.
Be able to work in
the energy development sector.
7.
Become active
participant of modern technologies in computers, communication,
nanotechnology, remote sensing etc.
8.
Develop computational
skills for solving physical problems with complicated
mathematical formulation occurring in natural science and
engineering.
9.
Develop comprehensive
understanding of latest observed physical phenomena in Physics.
10.
Train skilful Physics
educationists.
INTRODUCTION
The Department of
Physics was established in Government
Post Graduate
College, D. I. Khan under the University of Peshawar
in 1968 and was transferred to
Gomal
University in 1974
immediately after its establishment. Efforts have been made ever
since to provide conducive environment for academic activities.
The teaching staff is busy with full enthusiasm to improve the
quality of teaching and research in order to foster the
perception level of our students. The department started M. Phil
Program in 1983 and Ph. D Program in 1990. B. S. (4-years)
program was started in 2011. The research facilities are
accessible to the students in different fields of specialization
such as Plasma Physics, Radiation Physics, Computational Physics
and Nuclear Physics. Department has received research grant from
national/ international organizations including ICTP, GTZ and
HEC.
The department has
established fruitful collaboration with the International
Institutions such as Institute Fur Kernchemie Univ, Germany, German society of H. I. research (GSI),
Darmstradt, Germany,
Center de Research Nucl., Strassbourg, France, Institute of Atomic Energy Beijing, China
and Abdul Salam International Centre of Theoretical Physics
(CICTPI) Trieste,
Italy. The department has also
established national collaboration with Pakistan Institute of
Nuclear Science and Tech. (PINSTECH), PIEAS, PNRA, Punjab
University, Lahore, Physics Department, Quaid-e-Azam University,
Islamabad, University of Peshawar, GCU Lahore, National Centre
for Physics (NCP) Islamabad, NINVAST Islamabad and DINAR cancer
hospital Dera Ismail Khan.
