Department of Sports Sciences and Physical Education (DSSP)

The Department, first in the country, had started classes with effect from 23rd of July, 1976. Before the establishment of the department, there was no institution in the entire country which could provide opportunities for obtaining higher qualifications in the subject of Physical Education. The pioneer class of M.Sc. (HPER) consisted of 33 students belonging to all provinces of Pakistan and A.J. Kashmir. To prepare the students for M.Sc. (HPE) final years and to fill the gap, Senior diploma in Physical Education (SDPE) classes were started in the Department in 1980-81. Previously, the teachers from KPK used to go to Lahore to get their Senior Diploma and Junior diploma in Physical Education but with the break of one unit, the prospective students in Physical Education used to face great hardship in getting these training. In 1982-83 the Junior Diploma in Physical Education (JDPE) was also started. After the two batches passed out, the program was terminated.

The program of JDPE was offered in 1990 and restarted in 1996 on self finance basis. A scheme of M.Phil & PhD is under consideration and will be placed on the agenda of Board of studies in the near future.
